MS. PERINO: Hello, everybody. I've got a couple of things for you. Today the President will meet with and deliver remarks to family members of military personnel who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. It will take place over in the East Wing of the White House -- I think it's the East Room, but I'll confirm that for you. The Vice President, Cabinet members and other administration officials will be in attendance. Of course, it's closed press, in keeping with how the President handles these events.

MS. PERINO: Hi, everyone. Okay, I have a few announcements, so if you'll bear with me. Today, obviously, is a very exciting day. For the first time in over 27 years, all living U.S. Presidents will meet together at the White House in what will certainly be a historic gathering. These former Presidents have experienced something that, as I said yesterday, very few of us can even imagine. And President Bush is happy to welcome President-Elect Obama to lunch today, because he will soon be a member of this small group.

MS. PERINO: Hi, everybody. A couple of things for you. The President, as you saw, made remarks this morning at the military appreciation parade at Fort Myer. The President will soon have lunch with Mrs. Bush and Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and his wife. And then the President will make remarks on conservation and the environment, focusing on that announcement that I made yesterday regarding the marine environment.

MS. PERINO: Just a couple of announcements. You just heard the President talk about the automotive industry and how we've reached a decision. And you heard the President announce it. I brought Joel Kaplan, the Deputy Chief of Staff, here for his second appearance here on this topic. He was here last week and very helpful, so we thought we'd bring him back. He doesn't have a ton of time, but he'll be able to answer lots of your questions.

The President just met with Rich Williamson -- he's the special envoy -- the President's special envoy to Sudan -- to receive an update from him on the situation in Darfur and the status of a comprehensive peace agreement that the North and South are trying to work out.

MS. PERINO: Hello. One announcement for you. As I said yesterday, the President would be meeting this morning in the Roosevelt Room with people who are in recovery and leaders in drug prevention, treatment and law enforcement, and he will highlight some of the successes that have contributed to our nation's reduction in drug use in many areas. In 2002, he set an ambitious goal of reducing youth drug use by 25 percent over five years, and to work towards that goal the administration implemented a balanced strategy that emphasized three things: prevention, treatment and enforcement.

MS. PERINO: Hello, everybody. A couple of things for you. The President will meet with Dr. Helima Bashir in the Oval Office today at 1:05 p.m. The President will get a firsthand account of the horrible conflict and suffering that takes place in Darfur. She has been very active internationally in speaking out about the atrocities committed there, and the President was looking forward to meeting her when she came to town.

MS. PERINO: Good morning. I have a couple of things for you. At 11:20 a.m. this morning, the President will have an interview with John Yang of NBC News on the State Floor and the Map Room. At 5:00 p.m., the President and Mrs. Bush will participate in the 2008 lighting of the National Christmas Tree. It's the 85th year that a President of the United States has participated in that ceremony. It's coordinated by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation.

MS. PERINO: Good morning. The President is currently in the Situation Room receiving an update on the recent attacks in Mumbai. He also got an update on Iraq this morning. And as I announced last evening, Secretary Rice will travel to India on Wednesday, and I expect that she'll report back to the President upon her return, which I think is Thursday night, maybe Friday morning.
